Seventh Day: Conserving Energy in Our Houses of Worship & Homes

The Seventh Day Team

Actually, we have two:

- the technical team who guide the program, created the Using Energy Prudently (UEP) toolkit, facilitate the UEP and solar workshops, and engage more congregations; and

- the congregational leaders who lead their communities to deeply reduce their energy bills. Their leadership lights the way for us all to move forward.

We thank each team member immensely for your generosity and skills. You are making a real difference.

Seventh Day Technical Team

Madeline Hirschland founded and directs Seventh Day. Hirschland raised $.5 million for the project, recruited its congregations, guided the development of tools, and arranged and facilitated workshops for hundreds of congregations. With a BA and MPA from Harvard, Madi honed her skills during decades of work in microfinance in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. As a director at Save the Children, she supported programs in forty countries. She also facilitated international conferences and trainings and consulted to the World Bank, Gates and Ford Foundations, Opportunity International and others.

Molly O’Donnell is a LEED-accredited design professional (AP BD+C) with over 30 years of experience. Molly chairs the residential committee of the Monroe County Energy Challenge and co-chaired the City of Bloomington's Commission on Sustainability. Chair of the building and grounds committee at her church - which she guided to meet the Seventh Day goals -  O’Donnell has served the church as consultant in regard to lighting, windows, doors, metal roofing and solar panels. She has organized and led energy conservation workshops for congregational facility managers and co-convened Earth Care Bloomington.

Darrell Boggess co-founded the Southern Indiana Renewable Energy Network and has decades of experience as an engineer managing and evaluating programs for the federal government. Darrell advises congregations on solar issues and supported three IN Office of Energy Development grants that provided solar panels to Seventh Day congregations and for the Monroe County Showers Building. He regularly facilitates public forums across the state on the cost and performance of solar power for residences in Indiana. Darrell's home generates all its electricity with solar panels.
